Archaeology

Claire has experience in the conduct of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal archaeological field surveys and assessments, including liaison with local Aboriginal community members and knowledge holders, as well as preparation and submission of excavation permits where required. Claire recently worked with Kelleher Nightingale Consulting on the salvage excavation of Aboriginal archaeological sites prior to construction of the Princes Highway Upgrade – Foxground and Berry Bypass.

Claire has extensive knowledge of the Aboriginal heritage provisions of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Act, in particular the regulation of those provisions, gained through her employment as Archaeologist, North East Branch NSW Department of Environment and Conservation (now Office of Environment and Heritage). During her time as the RTA Archaeology and Heritage Advisor Claire worked with Aboriginal stakeholders, government agencies and RTA staff to develop the RTA guidelines for consultation with Aboriginal stakeholders regarding impacts on Aboriginal heritage associated with road construction projects.
